The five rules

1. 01Hand wash cold, separately, with a mild detergent
2. 02Wash hand-dyed pieces on their own for the first few washes — excess dye may release
3. 03Do not bleach and do not soak
4. 04Line dry in the shade to protect the colours
5. 05Iron on low, inside out

The first few washes

Wash your hand-dyed pieces on their own for the first three or four washes. Excess dye may release — this is normal, and it settles wash after wash.

Why it matters

Resist-dyeing lays the colour on the surface of the fibre. A hot wash, a long soak or drying in full sun will strip it faster. Washed cold, dried in the shade and ironed inside out, an Adire keeps its depth for years.
